Thursday 13: The Hills Are Alive
I used to have a weekly trivia feature on my blog, but forgot about it. They weren't always quizzes, but it's my blog and I can do whatever I want. So, here are thirteen questions about the movie, The Sound of Music.
1. What bald actor was also considered for the role of Captain Von Trapp?
2. During the filming of which musical number did someone fall through a pane of glass?
3. Which actress gained too much weight during filming and ended up being substituted by a stunt double in the scene where the family is trekking across the Alps?
4. When the Von Trapps are escaping their home, how many burly Austrians did they have to use to pull the car while the actors "pushed" from behind?
5. Which actor from the movie "Jaws," was also considered for one of the Von Trapp children?
6. Maria refers to the captain as all but one of the following: Captain, Sir, Georg, darling.
7. At the end of the movie, how many times does Fraulein Schweiger bow at the musical competition?
8. Which actor said working with Julie Andrews to "being hit over the head with a big Valentine's Day card, every day?"
9. How old was Charmian Carr in reality when she played the role of Liesl?
10. True or False: "Edelweiss" is a beloved folk song in Austria.
11. Which of the Von Trapp children threw up on another after capsizing the boat?
12. Which young actor lost too many teeth during the filming of the movie?
13. Who makes a cameo appearance in the film as an extra?
I'll post the answers tomorrow.

Okay, so I'm TSOM-challenged. I think I know ONE of these! Yikes!
Oh great, great TT! I have guesses for 5 of them, but dont' actually *know* any of them!
Let's see - Yul Brenner for 1. Georg for 6. Hans Holt for 8. True for 10. And Maria for 13. How'd I do?
Hmm... I think I know a few of these... Not sure... Great trivia questions!
Hmmm. These are tough, and I LOVE the Sound of Music.
I'll try a few:
2) "I"m Sixteen Going on Seventeen"
6) Georg
10) True
running away screaming!!!!!
(sorry - i have a phobia about that film)
holy crap, i have NO idea about any of those. hahahahahaha
laughing about no 8
What a great list! I'll be back to learn the answers ... (I have some suspicions, but no facts.)

Liesl was old, dude, I know that much, lol.
Can't wait to find out the answers. I made my older kids watch this with me last time the Roo went to go see his Dad. They weren't sure at first, but now they want to watch it again.
Anna J. Evans
Awww...I love The Sound of Music. My grandpa used to drag me out of bed at 6AM on Saturdays so we could watch together before anyone else got up and stole the remote.
I have no idea but I'll wait for the answers.
My mom used to make me watch this movie.
Dang, I forgot the linky thing.
I love The Sound of Music!
I want to know the answer to #13.
I know every song by heart...but I know none of that trivia :(
I don't know the answers either, but what is weird is that I didn't look at this before I did my thirteen, and I mentioned Julia Andrews and "Favorite Things".
OMG, this is too funny. One of my girl friends is completely obsessed with this movie. She LOVES it. Just the other day I was giving her a hard time because she knows way more about this movie then than the average person. And then here you are!
Hmm... looking forward to finding out the answers!
Hmmm, I can guess some, but it's been a while since I've seen the movie. I'm going to need to come back to learn the answers :)
My partner loves this film. Hm, is there something he's not telling me...?
And I don't know the answers to any of them!
Ok, I didn't know any of those. Is that bad lol?
I am pretty sure I knew a few of these; can't wait to see the answers!
Happy TT!
We always watched this as a family while growing up, and I looked forward to it every year--you know, back when it was only on once a year. Now it seems part of a regular rotation on some channels, which takes away part of what made it so special growing up. I think I know the answers to about half the Qs, but not sure on some of them. The window one...I was thinking "My Favorite Things," as they were all romping around the room.
I love The Sound of Music, but I don't seem to know the answers to many of these. :D
I can't imagine Maria calling the Captain darling. He's just so...not.
As for Edelweiss, we used to sing it in German class, so I'd have to say true. But maybe Frau Cahalan just loved TSOM, too.
Hey, I know these were hard questions! LOL. I could have presented them as multiple choice, but that would have added another hour or so to my post-composing time and I DO need to write once in a while!
Ah, Rhi. Come back Friday. There'll be art.
As for knowing the songs by heart, absolutely, me too. I can even quote long portions of dialogue, but my kids would tell me to shut up!
Yeah, I know what you mean, Heather. We used to get SO excited when we heard it was on TV. Society has lost a little something when video for the common man appeared.
I hate to admit it, but it's been so long since I've watched that film I didn't know the answer to a single one of the questions. But the trivia is very interesting.
